Any time is the best time to visit Nimali...
The Great Wildebeest Migration may be the headline act, but it’s far from the full story when it comes to Tanzania’s northern circuit and Nimali's three, stunning lodges. This region holds a rhythm all its own - a quiet pulse that never stops beating, even when the wildebeest move on. From the baobab-studded savannahs of Tarangire to the misted kopjes of the Serengeti and the golden-grassed hills along the Mara River, this land transforms with the seasons, revealing new moods, fresh scents, and untold stories in every shift of light, all year round.
With Nimali, a safari isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s about tuning in. It’s about feeling the heartbeat of the wild, no matter the month... Our lodges are an intrinsic part of the northern circuit and are perfectly located to offer year-round adventure.

Tanzania's fabled north is an open book waiting to be read, with different chapters fitting different times of the year. As each year begins, the rains bring their alchemy. Life bursts from the soil, verdant and untamed. Calving season draws predators, creating moments of high drama against a backdrop of technicolour greens and skies that seem to stretch forever. Migratory birds arrive like brushstrokes on canvas punctuating the skies with their breeding plumage and aerial displays.
Nimali Serengeti, quietly positioned among the Makoma Hills, doesn’t just witness this awakening - it breathes with it. Game vehicles roll out at dawn, tyres tracing paths across damp grass, the air fresh with petrichor and promise.

Then comes the hush before the crescendo... The period from April to June is a season often overlooked, and yet it is during these quieter months that the Serengeti reveals its soul. The herds shift subtly northward, not yet in dramatic crossings, but with purpose. Lions bask in golden light, not a soul in sight. Elephants move through the valleys in slow, deliberate procession. Evenings by the fire take on an almost sacred quality - stories are shared not to fill silence, but to honour it. Nimali’s tented suites open fully to the elements, so the breeze, the birdsong, the occasional distant roar are never out of reach.

By July, the tension builds. Hooves thunder. Dust lifts. Riverbanks churn. In the north, the Mara River becomes the stage, and Nimali Mara offers a rare intimacy with the most dramatic moment in nature’s calendar. But even here, the real magic lies beyond the spectacle. It’s in the quiet coffee at dawn before the balloon rises. In the crackle of the fire, where a glass of wine meets the call of a nightjar. In the stillness of your tent, where the only interruption is the curious rustle of passing hyenas or the soft rumbles of passing elephant.

The dry season sharpens everything. By August and September, waterholes draw in life from every direction. Giraffes lean in to drink beside herds of impala; leopards wait in the shadows. The air is crisp, the light rich. At Nimali Tarangire, the elephant congregations feel almost ceremonial. The great matriarchs lead their families through corridors of baobabs, past ancient termite mounds and grasses humming with life. And when the sun dips low, the world turns amber, and time itself seems to pause.

Even the short rains of November and December don’t dim the light here. In fact, they gild it. Soft showers sweep across the savannah, and with them, a sense of renewal. The herds move south, back toward the southern Serengeti plains, where they will calve once more. Nimali Serengeti once again finds itself in the slipstream of this great cycle. But this time, there’s no crowd to jostle for position. Just you, the guide, and the plains alive with life. The rain settles the dust and brings clarity - not just to the views, but to the very experience of being.

Each lodge in the Nimali collection speaks to a different element. Tarangire grounds you. Serengeti expands you. Mara humbles you. But together they form a circuit of continuity, a narrative of wild beauty told in scent, sound, texture and light. These are safaris that linger - on the skin, in the soul. Here, the year doesn’t move in quarters or seasons. It moves in pulses. And every pulse carries its own kind of wonder.
At Nimali, the invitation is simple but profound: come as you are and come when you can. The migration may draw the crowds, but Tanzania’s magic lies in its constancy. The wild doesn’t wait for the calendar - it lives every day. So should you.
